Today is Sunday 19.02.23 and I'm sitting in my office / studio about to launch my new show - KUPOCAST: The Podcasters Podcast, so I thought I’d write a supporting piece for the blog. I record my weekly football podcast The Boundary Park Alert System! every Sunday, so I’m down here anyway. It’s a big commitment recording a weekly show at the weekend but I’m privileged because I enjoy it and I love being here in this comfortable quiet space I’ve created.
19th February is always a day that stands out to me in the calendar, because it’s the birthday of a guy I used to know called Christopher Shirt. Tragically Chris took his own life more years ago than I care to remember. He was a smart, funny guy and an extremely talented artist. Chris became something of a recluse before he died, suffering with his mental health, which is something that was far too common where I grew up and a topic for another day. I want to acknowledge Chris, his talent, his life and his personality. It’s testament to him that he is still fondly remembered so many years later.
I feel very lucky and privileged to be sitting here writing this today, launching a new podcast and a new business. I don’t know how successful either will be, but despite my own struggles with life and my own mental health, here I am, doing something I enjoy, with the support of loving people around me. I’d say that’s a success in itself.
KUPODCAST is a podcast that focuses on the passions that drive people to create. Success is subjective, setting off to “be successful” is rarely the point. You only have this life once, your opportunities are plentiful yet equally limited. The one thing each podcaster I talk to has in common is that they just did it. So whatever it is that you think you ”should” be doing, stop thinking about it and do it.
I hope you enjoy KUPODCAST and if you would like to get involved or recommend a podcaster you’d like me to talk with, please let me know.
Dedicated to the memory of Chris “Shirty” Shirt.
Heads High mate.
